Go-Ahead Singapore Commences Operations
4 September 2016 - Go-Ahead Singapore started operating 13 bus services today. The bus services are Services 3, 34, 43/43M, 62, 82, 83, 84, 85, 118, 119, 136, 382 and 386. They will utilise the Punggol Bus Interchange and serve areas including Ang Mo Kio, Changi, Serangoon, Tampines and Yishun.
Go-Ahead Singapore’s first passengers boarded Service 82 at the interchange at 0505hrs this morning. Nigel Wood, Go-Ahead Singapore’s Managing Director and National Transport Workers' Union's (NTWU) Executive Secretary, Melvin Yong, were in attendance to observe a smooth transition between operators.
Mr Wood commented: “Much hard work culminated in the moment our first passenger boarded. My colleagues and I have been eagerly preparing for today. We are now in the fulfilling business of safely and reliably transporting people. From today, it is all about delivering on our promises and striving to continually improve, demonstrating that every journey does indeed matter to us.”
Mr Ng Eng Hai, a new Bus Captain, added: “Driving a bus comes with a lot of responsibilities. Safety always comes first and we have been trained to engage with passengers so that they receive up to date travel information. I received extensive training and I am proud to have completed my first day in service.”
Go-Ahead Singapore will operate a second tranche of 11 bus routes from Sunday 18 September 2016. These consist of Services 2, 6, 12, 15, 17, 36, 354, 358, 359, 403, and 518, which will start their journeys from Pasir Ris Bus Interchange.
Once all 24 services are up and running the company will employ approximately 700 Bus Captains and run a fleet of about 400 buses, which are a mix of double-deck Volvo B9’s and single-deck Mercedes Citaros.
