Go-Ahead Singapore Officially Opens Loyang Bus Depot

19 June 2016, Singapore  Go-Ahead Singapore today marked the official opening of its 8.3 ha Loyang Bus Depot with a community carnivalGuests-of-Honour, Mr Zainal Bin Sapari, Member of Parliament for Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC and Mr David Brown, Group Chief Executive of The Go-Ahead Group officiated the opening ceremony at the carnival held at 2 Loyang Way. Go-Ahead Singapore’s bus captain uniforms were also unveiled in a special showcase at the carnival.

Speaking at the carnival, Mr Zainal Bin Sapari said, “The public bus system is one that intimately involves the community – every public bus journey needs mutual understanding and respect, for commuters, drivers, and the people working in the background. I am glad that today’s carnival has helped to strengthen the ties between these groups through meaningful communication and interaction.

Mr David Brown added, “The opening of the Loyang Bus Depot is a major milestone for Go-Ahead in Singapore. Our employees have been hard at work building a team of committed and capable individuals all preparing for the start of operations in the third quarter of the year. Unveiling our bus captain uniforms also brings us one step closer, and gives the community a glimpse of the bus captains who will soon be on the road.

The Go-Ahead Singapore bus captains uniforms are designed with a vibrant red and yellow, which are the company’s corporate coloursThe uniform colours also symbolise warmth and friendliness. The diamond lines on the sides symbolise the Go-Ahead Singapore family’s drive to move ahead together with passengers and all other stakeholders.

The community carnival drew close to 3,000 visitors to the depotwith a myriad of exciting activities to engage and entertain themVisitors received a carnival passport that guided them to points of interest at the depot with activity highlights such as a bus wash experience, balloon sculpting, jigsaw puzzle challenge, magic show, and various carnival games. Visitors who completed activities on the carnival passport were eligible to participate in a lucky draw. In addition, the first 1,000 ‘early birds to the carnival also received a goodie bag with souvenirs.

Mr Nigel Wood, Managing Director of Go-Ahead Singapore, concluded, “The carnival was a great opportunity for us to introduce Go-Ahead Singapore as part of the community that we are going to serve. We will continue to engage with our community, understand their needs and transform their everyday journeys into positive experiences as we believe every journey matters. Delivering safe, reliable and friendly public transport services is our commitment to them.”

About Go-Ahead Singapore

Go-Ahead Singapore is a new bus operating company devoted to delivering safe, reliable and friendly services for commuters in Singapore. From September 2016, it has begun operating 24 bus routes and another one from 2017 in the Loyang district for a period of five years under the new Bus Contracting Model.
